Jets with a fourth quarter comeback and stop of Peyton Manning are heading to the next rounds of the playoff.  Bring it on New England.

“Rex looking for his Pay-Back”

By Juan Pablo

It was only days, if not minutes, after the Jets lost to the Colts in the AFC Championship Game last year that coach Rex Ryan and GM Mike Tannenbaum began plotting for the rematch. And that time has arrived

The Jets who managed to squeeze themselves into the 2011 playoffs have made a couple of big moves so that history does not repeat itself. Now we all remember what Manning did to Rex and the Jets last January, when he rallied his team back from 17-6 first half deficit by throwing for 377 yards and three touchdowns en route to a decisive 30-17 victory.  So they went and traded a third-round pick to San Diego for Antonie Cromartie, and signed free agent safety Brodney Pool from the Browns. They used their first-round draft pick to select cornerback Kyle Wilson from Boise State and added pass rush help by signing former Dolphin veteran Jason Tyler.

The defense was not the only side they upgraded. With 17 points not being enough and knowing that to beat Manning you need to score more points, the Jets traded for wide receiver Santonio Holmes, the Super Bowl MVP with the Steelers, and signed San Diego free agent LaDainian Tomlinson, the future hall of fame running back.

Now it is time to see if all those moves can pay off.  “I have waited a full year for this”, Ryan said. “We’ll see what happens. I know I feel confident. I feel confident in the man around me.”

Well Rex you better feel confidant since we all know Manning owns you. Rex has lost five of six meetings against Manning going back to Ryan’s Baltimore days and one the one win was last December, when the Colts pulled their starters in the second half to rest them for the playoffs. But who is really counting that game? Which means Rex is 0-5 against Manning. Manning has dominated Rex defense by going 94-of-150 for 1,321 yards, 12 TD’s, two INT’s and out scoring him 144-53. Ouch!

“I don’t know when I’m going to beat him, but I want it to be Saturday night. Is it personal? Yes, it is personal. It is personal against him, Reggie Wayne, all those guys, yeah. [Dwight] Freeney and [Robert] Mathis and those other dudes, absolutely.”

The Showdown is this Saturday at 8pm on NBC. Will Rex new defensive schemes and re amped offense be enough to stop and out score Manning and the Colts. Or will Rex and the Jets fall short again from another Super Bowl contention year?
