Kieron Williamson

Child Prodigy

By Anya Martinez

Great things come in small packages…or this case, very young ones. Kieron Williamson is a nine-year old painter who has been hailed as the future Picasso of our time. He specialises in watercolour paintings, but he has also produced works using in oil paints and pastels. At his second exhibition, his sixteen paintings sold out in fourteen minutes and he raised over eighteen thousand pounds.

What’s so special about Kieron’s work his that he shows superior knowledge in perspective and shading. Kieron is also self-taught and he has only been painting for less than three years.

If you’re one of the sceptics who think it’s not possible for such a young person to create such beauty, Kieron occasionally does art demonstrations, proof positive that he is creating the artwork.

When asked what it feels like to paint in front of an audience Kieron says “I don’t mind, because I don’t think about anyone else, I paint in a class of adults at workshops sometimes, which I did when I was 6, as long as I go at my pace and do my thing I’m ok. I want people to know that it’s me who is doing the work. I enjoy it, and want other people to enjoy it too. When we go painting on place, people come over to look, and ask questions, it’s nice”

If you’re interested in purchasing Kieron’s work… get in line! His works are sold out! Hopefully the pressure to produce won’t stress him out too much, but I certainly hope he sticks with it!
