Award season: Celebrities walking the red carpet

Red Carpet & Stairs

It is award season, and you know what that means: a bunch of celebrities walking the red carpet dressed to the nines.  They all look perfect (well, most of the time), and you are wondering how you can work that suit like Justin Timberlake, or wear that gown like Mila Kunis.  Here are a few tips on dressing like red carpet celebrities.

Gals: 1. Show off your Best Features – Don not do anything too crazy.  If you’ve got a great rack do not make it all about cleavage, just try to enhance your features.  If you have great legs show them off with an appropriately short dress, or a slit.

  1. Colors – Wear colors that go with your skin tone and you will look radiant.  Julianne Moore looks stunning in green with her fair skin and red hair.  With my tan skin and black hair I look nice in turquoises.  See what works for you, and you will glow without even trying too.
  1. Dresses versus Jewelry – If your dress is overpowering, you might want to skip the jewelry.  The point is to make either the dress or the accessory the focus.  Never both.  If you’re wearing a dress with lots of fabric just wear small sparkling earrings.  Or if you’re wearing a strapless gown, a chunky diamond bracelet or huge ring will work in your favor.

Guys: 1. Wearing a Suit – Guys, I’m sorry but you’re easy to dress.  Most of the time, you guys can just throw on a suit and look dashing without any effort.  But still here are some tips.  Don’t do a weird colored suit.  Go for something that’s black, gray, or dark blue.  If you want to play with color, then that is where your button down shirt and tie comes in handy.  Why not try a classic white shirt with a bright purple striped tie?

2. A Suit is a Suit… is a Suit – Another bit of advice is this: don’t just pair any sports coat with a pair of slacks.  Buy a suit that comes as a set.  Trust me on this.  The colors will never properly match if you pair anything together.  You definitely will not look polished.

  1. Wear a Suit that Fits – Some guys are lucky and can buy a suit right off the rack and it will fit them perfectly.  But that is not the case in most situations.  You should wear a suit that fits you properly.  You may not want too, but go to a tailor and get it fitted.  This will finish off your look.

So you might not be walking down the red carpet, but I am sure you are going to events for work, or parties with friends and you need to look dashing.  Hopefully these tips will get you on your way to looking like a movie star.
