Lauryn Hill

Miseducated genius

' 1 laurynhill-miseducatedgenius-music-wyclefjean'

My artist of the week spotlight will shine on Lauryn Hill who I believe to be a beautiful, gifted and talented woman. Hill’s music has a personal signature that marks it as distinctly hers. She takes ownership of her craft, just as she does her style. We all remember her time with the Fugees, and their hits like Killing Me Softly and “Ready or Not” but it was with her 1998 release of her debut solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” that she made her name unforgettable on the music scene.

Everyone likes to be different. We would all like our apparel to reflect our own personal style. If you don’t have any experience in design or fashion, you may have to depend on designers to create your look.  However custom apparel is becoming more and more popular with the advent of customizing applications like the one used by Nike and many other companies online.

Not Your Average Artist: Robert Montgomery

robertmontgomery_fourfront1602

By: Samantha Dudhnath

Robert Montgomery is more than just your average street artist.  According to his website, “Robert Montgomery works in a poetic and melancholic post-situationist tradition.”  He takes advertising spaces from around the world and installs his pieces in there place.  Montgomery tries to grab more than just the attention of people passing by.  He tries to inspire them, and bring some sort of hope into their lives.

“The Jets fly high”

BY: Juan Galan

photo

After an entire week of trash talking the Jets had the last word-On and off the field.  The New York Jets defeated (the bully) The New England Patriots 28-21 last night but don’t let the score fool you the Jets defense dominated Brady and the highest scoring offense in the league. The truth to this story is plain and simple one Rex Ryan had to find a way to out smart Brady and Belichick in which he did when he decided to put his ego to the side and change his approach and defense. He completely fooled the Patriots. He came out with a strong zone were he rushed a three man line and dropped more guys into coverage. This let to Brady standing longer in the pocket which he’s not used to and allowed the defensive line to get after Brady and produce 5 sacks and 1 interception. Ryan also added a ton of movements to his front line this also caused many confusions to Brady and didn’t allow him to get comfortable at the scrimmage line……. Read more on this inspirational game.

Songs of the Week

Coldplay’s “See you soon” & Bruno Mars’ “Grenade”

This week I could not pick just one song. These two songs have been on repeat on my iTunes play list for the past week and a half. They could not be more opposite “See you soon” from Coldplay’s 1999 EP “The Blue Room” is a mellow, heartfelt poem set to music. Bruno Mar’s “Grenade” from his from his debut studio album, “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” is a pumping, angry ode to an evil ex-girlfriend.

With the release of Michael Jackson’s first posthumous record, I wanted to take a look at those artists who continued making top selling records after death. “Michael” is the first of seven posthumous albums to be released by the Sony cooperation after a $250 million dollar deal with Jackson’s estate. Michael Jackson is not the only artist to enjoy fame after death. Elvis Presley holds the record for most number one singles after he died in 1977…….

Ted Williams, known as the homeless guy with the “golden radio voice,” just wanted a second chance.  Well boy oh boy did he ever get a second chance!  Williams became known due to a youtube video of him begging on an Ohio roadside.  Offer after offer began rushing in, but the most lucrative one came from the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Williams was so excited repeating to a local radio station, “The Cleveland Cavaliers just offered me a full-time job, and a house!
